Here are my weekly top 10 tunes with a personal review:
27th July 1999
Just so busy at the moment I have not had time to go buy loads of records as per usual or time to review what I have got. Still, here is a feeble attempt:
TUNE OF THE WEEK:
Armin: "Communication" (Cyber Records)
This is tops. The Vincent De Moore remix is the one to play. Althouugh both track are real spine chillers. A perfect example of great uplifting trance. Everything that comes out on this label is great. Watch this space !!!
Baby Blue: "Too Loud" (Duty free Promo)
Nice little white label from Tall Paul's label. However I don't know which mix is which !!! Both sides are quite hard. One being more trance and the other being typical Tall Paul stuff, full on and pumping.
Sasha: "Expander EP" (Deconstruction)
Real variety of stuff on this. I have not heard it enough to judge, but well worth the money as you probably won't be able to get it for long. Big question: Which way is Sasha going with his music?
Signum: "Just do it" (Untidy Trax)
Great hard house from this brilliant label which are re-releasing their whole back catalogue this week. So thank god I'm getting paid!!! If I ever catch the B*****d who stole my copy of "What can you do for me" by Signum on NYE !!!!!!! Anyway this is very good indeed, very pumping and full is sirens and horns.
DJ Jean: "The Launch EP" (Urban)
Great funky house, could be a hit for the summer although it could get annoying like "Music sounds better with you "
Blank & Jones: "Cream" Paul Van Dyk mix (Deviant)
Everyone has been waiting for this. Its come out on about 5 different labels and now its got a full UK release. I reckon its gonna hit the charts. The original is great but just like Binary Finary's "1998", Paul beefs it up a lot more and puts in those whoosh sounds to make you go all wobbly at the knees. Its got loads of little breaks and build up all the way through.
Marmion: "Best Regards" (MFS)
The long awaited return of Marmion is finally here. Famous for "Schoneberg" from a good few years back they return with this funky little number. I was not too keen on at first but it's grown on me very quickly and can't help nodding my head to it now. One side has a harder bass line to it with a few more squeaks in it, whereas the one that does it is really bouncy and original. Sounds a bit like something New Order would come out with. Well worth a grin.
Allure: "When she left me" Wavestate Remix (Trance Spectral)
Absolutely top tune, its got a sad feel to it and is just pure trance all the way through.
Blank & Jones: "After Love" (Gang Music)
Typical Blank & Jones stuff but not that pumping. I think it needs a little bit more umph!!!!!
Yomanda: "Synth & Strings" (Manifesto)
Being canned by the Judge Jules for a while now. Not usually the type of stuff I would buy, but being Ibiza season I suppose every DJ should have it in their box. Real fast, everything banging, disco cut up, full on track. El Divinio here we come.
ATB: 9pm (till I come) Matt Darey remix (Ministry)
Who is Matt Darey? All his remixes are spot on. We all know about the original but have you heard Matt's masterpiece? The original has already been completelly worn out which I think is a shame because its so good. Commercialism hey !!!
H.E.U.V.E.L: "Drive you crazy" (Massive drive Gold)
Nice house from Holland, picked it up in Amsterdam, not sure how limited it will be over here but well worth a look. 10" vinyl.
Signum feat Scott Mac: "Coming on strong (Remixes)" (Jinx)
Great tune anyway, remix even better. Again I got this in Holland and I don't know how long it will take to get to this part of the world.
DJ Jean: "The Launch EP" (Urban)
Great funky house, could be a hit for the summer although it could get annoying like "Music sounds better with you "
